Painting my Laminate flooring- V33 floor and stairs paint

With the world dealing with the recent pandemic.  The only way to keep my mental health in check is to get creative.  I  set myself tasks each week and I focused on these to block out the fears and worries of Covid 19.

For sometimes, I have been considering changing my flooring.  I considered tiles or a white wash laminate to brighten up the space.  The cost of this renovation was not something I was ready to make now.  Particularly, with the current financial state of the world.

In my search for a cheaper alternative, I came across a post by @my_mindful_home about painting laminate flooring.  This prompted and encouraged me to go ahead with this project.

I researched which floor paints to use….

I thought it was safest to go with a brand that was tried and tested.  Lucky for me, my local  home improvement store stocked the V33 renovation floor and stair paint. To further put my mind at ease, I consulted the paint expert at the home improvement store.  She too had heard great reviews about this protect.

V33 offer this paint in 4 shades. Don’t ask me why but I went for the Satin white.  I guess I was taking a big jump with this project so I thought I would go all the way.

Initially I had bought one 2 litre of paint but given that I had to give my floor three coats of paint to get my desired finished, I had to purchase an additional 0.75l to finish the job. BTW  my living room is not that big either.

To complete this project I used

-Elbow grease degreaser.

-Sanding paper and a sanding block

-Paint brush

-Paint roller

-Hoover

-Cleaning clothes

To begin with, I mentally sectioned off the work.  Given that I don’t have much space,  I had to work in sections.  This meant moving all the furniture to one side / corner of room at any one time.

I  hoovered my floor well to get rid of any dust and dirt.  I than cleaned the floor with the degreaser to get rid of any oil or residue.

Although the V33 instructions does not mention sanding the area, I took this additional step to ensure that the paint has a good surface to bond to.  You may decide to skip this step if you wish.

I hoovered and cleaned the floor for the second time to get rid of dust from the sanding. In hindsight, I probably could have done the sanding first to avoid needing to hoover and clean twice.

With all prep done, I was ready to mix the paint and make a start.  I simply followed the instructions that came with the paint; which was to pour in the 10ml Additif that comes the paint and stir well for a few minutes. Once you add the Additif, the paint has to be used  within 10 days.

The paint point comes with two lids. One of which can be used as a paint tray.  I personally did not need to use this.

I started by painting the edges of the room using my paint brush.  I then worked my way around the room using the paint foam roller.  I repeated this step for each section until all 3 coats of paint where applied.

Throughout the process I wore socks to avoid getting oil or moisture from my feet onto the cleaned floor.

Although this paint dries pretty quickly after application, you have to leave the paint to dry for 3 hours after each coat.  Be sure to keep the paint pot properly covered while waiting for each coat to dry.

So you are probably wondering, just how long did this project take to complete.  Well… my living room was painted in 4 sections. This was purely due to lack of space.  Having my sofa, and cabinets in the lounge while doing this work, made it just a bit more difficult.   Each section required 3 coats and each coat needs 3 hours drying time.

Yep!

This project took wayyy to long.

But ….

It was totally worth it.  I love the end result. It turned it even better than I had imagined.  I still find myself walking past my living room and smiling. That feeling when your hard work pays off is truly priceless.

I wanted to wait before sharing this because I had read on the V33 website that it can take up to 20 days for the paint to fully dry.

……….

….

2 months later, I think the paint has fully dried and there are Still no regrets.

I am definitely more mindful about getting stains or scratches on the floor. By default I am also cleaning the living room more often because every crumb and dust is so much more visible on white flooring.  I have also noticed that certain types of footwear leave prints on the floor so  we generally do not wear shoes in the house anymore.

So my final words

This has been a great way to revamp the living room flooring and it cost less than £150.  I think I have stopped the time on the re-flooring project by about 2-3 year.

I know that as times goes by, the once perfectly white floor will begin to show signs of being trampled on day in day out.  I have braced myself to embrace that beauty too.

The floor has become significantly more slippery.  This might be because the paint has a satin finish. To help with this we have bought rugs to reduce slip and also add warmth to the lounge. Absolutely no clinical feel or look over here.

I hope this post answers any questions you might have regarding this project.  If I have missed any details please feel free to ask in the comments box below.
I have also posted a YouTube video that you might find to have more visual details here.

Watch this space, I may well do an updated review after 6-12months.

What a way to tell the world that am back to sharing styles, looks and trends on this platform, than with a post on styling neons.

If you have not seen this eighties trend about, then maybe you have not been looking. I really doubt it will survive beyond Spring/summer 19 so I wouldn’t buy a whole wardrobe full of neons. A few neon essentials are enough to keep you on trend all season long.

Here’s how I styled mine 3 ways.

Nyx Lip Lingerie review -EXOTIC

Just when you think you have enough lipsticks…. you come across one that’s a slightly different shade to all you already own.

Plus I could not go to the USA without buying any lipstick. I have 4 sisters and this is only lipstick left from the ones I bought 😒😒.

Really loving this lippie. It’s got a little more umph than your average nude.  This colour is described as a warm mahogany red. It’s perfect for this season.

As you all know… I have reduced the amount I spend on lipsticks significantly.  I find the cheaper ones are most times just as good as the big brands.

I love that this lipstick really dries matte. It doesn’t feel tacky like some other lipsticks do. It is also very light and does not feel cakey when I apply multiple layers.

To top it off I Don’t have to scrub my lips till it’s red raw to get the lipstick off at the end of the day.

👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾

This product gets several thumbs up from me. Can’t wait to try on the other shades.

Give me a thumbs up if you have enjoyed this mini review.  I have a few move new lipsticks that am loving and want to review.  Let me know if this is helpful. X

Diy Pearl Jeans -Tall girls

Hey friends,

It’s almost the end of summer and I desperately wanted to join the pearl jeans gang. I think it looks so cool paired with white sneakers or mules.

I searched the internet and found not one pair of tall pearl jeans.  I wasn’t gonna to let this go…. the idea of buying a regular pair of jeans and making it work crossed my mind🤔🤔 but I didn’t want to settle for that.

I had just bought a new pair of Joni Jeans from the Topshop sales. So I decided to make my very own pearl jeans.

Whenever I go to Walthamstow market, I feel like a kid at a candy store. I love checking out the fabric and haberdashery stores. My mind literally wonders as I think about all the things I can customise or make.

I bought a chain pearls for £1. It contained about 100 pearls, although I can’t tell you the size.

Deciding where to place the beads was easy. I wanted something eye catching so I sewed the pearls randomly by the ankles of the Jeans and along the waist/thigh area.

It turned out more beautiful than expected.  Totally worth the hard work of making a knot behind each pearl.  I have since learnt that I could have used pearl rivets to speed things up… maybe next time.

I finish this look by pairing my pearl jeans with an asymmetric hem top from Zara and mules from Dorothy Perkins.  Read more about these shoes here

Primark-Metallic matte Lip crayon review

Hey guys … so while I have been deeply in love with my matte lipsticks, things have been changing in the lipstick world.

The trend has gone from the more matte the better to super shine metallic lipsticks.

I am not sure how I feel about this look but the celebs and fashion houses are making it work.  Before investing in what seems to be a fleeting trend, I thought I would test the waters with the Metallic Matte lip crayon from Primark. I purchases the 24k Dip and the Dark Berry.

I have used these lip crayons before so I had a rough idea of what I would be getting. Check out my other reviews here.  The quality I get in these lip crayons are so worth every bit of my £2, But sharpening them are a nightmare.

I know fashion has a way of going and coming but these metallic lipstick’s remind me of something my mum would have worn in the 80’s.

That said, we are in the times were highlighting is everything!  I see this trend as a way of highlighting and bringing focus to the lip.

My number one tip for wearing metallic lips is to really tone down everything else.  Allow your lips to be the main jewel and focus on your face . I don’t have any facial pieceings but this look makes me feel like am wearing jewellery on my lips,  Especially the 24k dip.

My last comment about this product is that on applying this lipstick, I noticed that it has a slight scent to it.

                               🤔🤔???

I am not keen on using scented products on my face … but I guess sweet smelling lips might not be such a bad thing.  😗

Let me know what you think of this trend?? Would you try it ??

Tall high waisted Jeans review.

Guys its never easy to find a good pair of Jeans ( let alone high waisted jeans) as a tall gyal.  I have been busy finding and trying on a bunch of jeans and have come up with 5 jeans that i think are pretty awe.

All the jeans reviewed are super affordable and would be prefect for the season.  Kicking thing off with a pair of jeans from

MisGuided

These Black Sinner High Waisted Extreme Ripped Skinny Jeans have really really grown on me.  I bought a size 16 and it fits as good as it looks.  The frilled hem are totally on trend. These jeans are paired with a blouse from Boohoo and mules from Dorothy Perkins.

My second purchase from Misguided are the  Tall Vice High Waisted Super Stretch Skinny Jean – Light blue in a UK size 14.  I still can not believe that I managed to squeeze into a size 14.  I adore the colour and the fit of these jeans, definitely one for the summer months. More than anything am loving the outfit combo.

Topshop

A must have for every lady is the Topshop high waisted Joni jeans.  I love the variety of colours available in the range.  These jeans are from the hold power collection so they are super firm on the stomach area.  I am so glad that Topshop have this range because the standard Joni jean get slack and over stretched after several wears.

You can shop this jean Here and the embroidered mesh top which is currently on sale Here.

New Look

These are the cheapest of them all at just £22.99.  Probably not the most high waisted pair of jeans but they are very decent for the price. I really wish this jeans would sit higher on the waist.  I was also a little disappointment at the quality of the black- 😦  but hey… its less than 25 quid! You can shop these here.

Dorothy Perkins

Currently my favourite ” go to ” pair of high waisted jeans at present.  Who would not love these when you can go a whole dress size smaller.  I love how stretchy these jeans are and they are proper High waisted. These jeans do leave black dye reside on your skin after wear but is nothing a few washed wont  sort.  You can shop these fab jeans Here.

So that’s my 5 high waisted jeans review.  Its one thing reading and seeing pictures but videos are sooooo much better.  Check out my video review over on YouTube below.  Let me know if you want to see more style/ fashion/ review videos.

M.A.C Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour -Red Jade review

Hey guys a flash review of the MAC matte liquid lip colour in Red Jade. This was a blind purchase in terms of buying it without actually seeing the colour in real life. My decision was based on the colour shown on the MAC site.

This lip colour is applied as a liquid but it drys matte.  I loved these types of lipsticks because they are very long lasting and do not transfer. Although this is called a Red Jade, it has an orangy undertone.  Shades like this are very vibrant and great for the summer. I was so pleased with the colour. Totally my kinda thing.

I had some challenges applying this lip colour. In order to avoid streaks I had to apply 2-3 coats. DO NOT pat down once the lipstick has started to dry.   I mad this mistake and had to start over because it caused clumping .

I really like the applicator. The shaping helps with going round the lips for better precision. So far I have had lots of compliments on this lipstick.  I bought it here with 30%off.  The great news is that MAC are doing 20% off all products right now using the discount code mac20. So you can buy this and other similar fab products.

Have fun.
See you soon.

Five rules for wearing floral prints

Hey lovelies. …. we can hardly make it past summer without saying the ‘F’ word. Floral prints are definitely a summer staple.

Deciding which floral print to wear can be the problem. Is there any such thing as a dated print? Are some prints more suited for specific sessions ? ????🤔

Fashion rules are there to be pushed and broken. But here are 5 rules to help you in wearing floral prints this summer.

Rule  No. 1

Wear whatever print makes you happy and comfortable . During the summer months you might find that larger sized  prints are more suited to match the bright and vibrant weather.  During the winter you can get away with adding colour and character to grey and cold days with smaller sized floral prints.

Rule No. 2

It is not a crime to wear floral print on floral print.  It takes a very special kind of person to pull this off.  If you are going the extra mile and wish to wear clashing prints, take care not to over do it. Medium sized prints with small sized floral prints might just be the right balance.
Rule No. 3

Make a statement with your floral print.  Maximum the impact of your floral print by wearing it in a maxi-dress or by draping it in a duster/ kimono.
Rule No. 4

Be brave enough to experiment with colour. Opt for colours which suit your complexion for a girly and fresh look.
Rule No. 5

If you are still not sure how to join the flower power movement, floral embroidery item are on trend and perfect for this season.

How are you floral-ing this season. Have fun with it.

DIY- Making a Kimono Jacket

Hi Guys,

I have recently had the urge to be more creative.  So I embarked on my first DIY sewing project to make a Kimono Jacket.

To start with I went fabric shopping.  This was so much fun guys. So much colours and textures out there.  I don’t know much about fabric compositions but something flowy works well for Kimono’s.  I also went for something with florals since this is totally in trend.

Once you have your fabric, you will need the following:

IMG_2855

  • 2.5 yards of Fabric ( buy more fabric if you want the Kimono to be bigger or longer)
  • Sewing machine
  • Measuring tape
  • Fabric marker or chalk
  • Thread
  • Pins
  • Scissors

Begin by folding your fabric into two. Do this along the longer side of the fabric.

IMG_2850

Decide on how big you want the Kimono, then mark iron and and cut downwards of the folded edge.  I wanted an over-sized look so I measure mine at 36 inches ( This came out super big so I ended up taking 2 inches off).  When cutting ensure you still have enough fabric for your sleeves.

With the remaining fabric measure and cut out your sleeves.  I wanted wide and long sleeves these measured  13 inches on the half.  You will need to cut two fabrics this size for both sleeves.

IMG_2856

You should have the following pieces of fabric cut now.  You will notice that I cut a slit in the bigger piece of the fabric.  This is the main body of the kimono and the slit will form the front openings/ sides.  Do not throw away left over fabrics.  This can be used to make a belt or pockets for your Kimono.IMG_2859

I decided to work on the sleeves first. On each piece, I pinned the two edges inside out and sewed.   As an additional step I ironed my seams open.  This helps with getting that great finish.

I currently do not have an over-locker so I had to double fold and sew all the raw edges on the Kimono to avoid fraying.  On the sleeves you only need to do this to one edge as the other edge will be joined to the main body of the Kimono.

You are now ready to attach the sleeves.  Insert the sleeves into the Kimono and pin into place. Take care to ensure that the sleeves are the right way in to avoid having them inside out once you have finished sowing.

You should now have the basics of your Kimono.

IMG_2860

I decided to cut the neck line as above to add some shaping to the collar.

Finally sew the sides together and neatly bind all your raw edges.  And your DONE!

Oh I added pockets and a belt with left over fabrics.

All in all I found this Kimono fairly straight forward to make and I am so thrilled with what I have achieved.  One of my biggest challenge was in binding the neck edge because of the collar curve( I could really do with some tips on how to do a better job of this in the future).  I am also still working on making my sewing straight but am sure a little more practice will straighten this out.  In hindsight I wish I used fabric that was printed on both sides.  Am not keen on seeing the plain side showing as am wearing the Kimono.

Ok so…. This is the finished product!   Still not sure how an going to wear this on holiday but I put this look together just to show you.

New rules for layering

Does what to wear during winter make you want to pull out your hair too?

It kills me to think weather over fashion.. why can’t I have it all?

Recently, I have found a new way to layer clothes to stay warm and chic.

Despite what you might think. … this is the time to stock up on awkward midi and long dresses.. yes midi dresses. By layering them over skinny jeans or wide leg trouser, you get to make the most out of it in the winter and the summer. The joy of having a multi-seasonal wardrobe.

There are a few simple rules :

  • Opt for loose fitting and floaty dresses. Midi’s and shirt dresses will change your layering game 👌
    • Experiment with colours, prints and textures. Dresses that contrast your jeans or trousers are ideal.
    • Feel free to seal the layers together with a trench or maxi coat.

The final rule is to have fun with layering.  This is truly effectless chic at its finest.
